He arrived in England on 21 Jul 1917 and on 17 Nov 17 proceeded to France. he arrived in Rouelles France on 18 Nov 1917. on 20 Nov 1917 he joined the 13th FAB and served in 13th Bty in France until he returned to Australia. William was discharged (TPE) on 4 Oct 1919. He was awarded the British War Medal No. 73540 and the Victory Medal No. 70411.
