  • Notes
    • Mary worked hard but was kind and generous to all. She was a member of the same church and her faith meant a lot to her. "Because thou hast been our help, therefore in the shadow of the wing we will rejoice" was a source of great comfort to her. She was sensitive and caring and dreadfully shocked by Wilfred's death. She visited the grave every week. After her husband's death she always kept his photo in the dining room and had a fresh rose next to it. She took Flowers to the cemetery every Sunday and was upset when she was not well enough to do so.
She had terrible arthritis in the knees and spine. She brought up her brothers and sisters until her father remarried after her mother's death. Her father and step-mother retired to Largs Bay. They employed a lady as housekeeper as she had a large family and no means of support. She loved flowers especially roses, daisies, sweet peas and the spring blossoms.
She remembered the Kaurna tribe who used to live on the land now used as the Balaklava Show ground oval. (The Tucker Family in Australia, 1992)
