1562 Rosetta was an aunt when she was born and attended school with some of her neices and nephews at Grace Plains. rose commenced school at an early age going with her elder brothers and sisters and many were the times they carried her on their shoulders as she found the tree mile walk morning and afternoon very tiring. No doubt her little steps impeded their speed. her teacher, a Mrs Morgan, often made a bed from coats belonging to the pupils for her to rest on during the day. Rose held her teacher in high esteem and after she had completed her required schooling she attended for another year at Mrs Morgan's suggestion. Rose and her sisters used to help stack the hay, always using bonnets and old stockings on their arms to protect them from the sun and to prevent scratching on their arms. Life was centered round the family, church and associated activities, local interests and visits to relatives. Having a married sister, Harriet, living at St. Peters meant that trips to Adelaide were generally an overnight stay and on the return trip a call on the baker to purchase bread meant that the daily chore of bread making was eliminated for a few days.
Rose remained in the family home until the death of both parents. She married when she was 26, their wedding being the first solemnized at Grace Plains. Rose and her husband lived and farmed at Mallala until 1927. Their children were born there and they were foster parents to Ada Stewart, a ward of the state, from the time she was 14 until she married Alfred Bristow. They shifted to Wilcox Ave, Prospect because of Les's ill health; around 1934 they decided that the sea air may be beneficial for him and they made their home on the Esplanade at Grange. Some years after his death she moved to a smaller residence at Woodville Park.
Sixteen years after her husband's death she married again and she and Elliot lived at Plympton and then Kensington. After his death she lived at Weeroona Private Hospital, lockleys until her death in her 98th yar. her life was centred around her husband, sons and grandchildren but she always maintained very close ties with her relatives. (The Tucker Family in Australia, 1992)

1591 Sarah is the twin sister of Ambrose Albert Kerney Kerney, Sarah Josephine (I10938)

1592 Sarah was one of a set of premature twins; the other, a male, was stillborn. She weighed approximately 2 pounds, she was so tiny that she was carried on a cushion and could be bathed in a milk jug. Proof that she was so tiny exists in the form of a bonnet which will fit on an orange. Members of the family still have the bonnet.
At the age of 4 she travelled to Salisbury where her father, Richard took up 125 Acres for farming. In 1872 when when Sarah was 12 the family came to Grace Plains, Sarah being the eldest of a very large family would have had a lot of responsibility placed on her, especially in looking after younger members of the family. Her schooling was limited because of this.
She attended the Grace Plains Bible Christian Church and this is most certainly where she met George and was married. A piece of her wedding dress still exists. According to family legend Sarah had to milk cows the night she was married because no-one else knew how to do it.
George also had little schooling but attended night schoo in Mallala in his teenage years.
Sarah and George set up home on the property called the "Hermitage" at Grace Plains. The family of 10 was born there with her mother, Sarah Tiller acting as mid-wife, George and Sarah worked hard on the farm along with help from their children. (Seed was scattered by hand and reaped with a stripper and cleaned with a manually operated winnover. The grain was then carted 15 miles to Port Parham, where boats would come up the gulf on high tide and anchor 1 mile off shore. Stock was transported to Adelaide in a 3 horse covered van on unmade roads. The market in those days is where the Adelaide railway station is today.)
Most of the children attended the Grace Plains school but some of the younger ones went to Pinery as George had a difference of opinion with the teacher. Several of Georg's brothers migrated to Victoria, and it is said that George wanted to go too but Sarah did not want to leave her family.
In 1909 after 27 years of farming the "Hermitage" George and Sarah moved to Owen to a property called "Wilderness" as it was near the Wilderness Creek, Sarah was presented with a hair brush and clothes brush from the Grace Plains district for her work in the area. Brothers, Perc and Clem, remained at the "Hermitage" and sister Ivy Kept house for them. When Bert married in 1916 he took over "Wilderness" and George and Sarah moved to another homestead on the outskirts of the Owen township. Gladys stayed home to help until she married.
The whole family was deeply saddened in 1917 when they received news that Hurlte was killed in action in France.
George and Sarah wee devoted members of the Owen Methodist Church. The Marshman boys were gifted with beautiful singing voices and sang in the choir; Wes played the organ. Sarah was a member of the Methodist Church for 60 years. The family had a housekeeper, a Miss Veitch, to help them. In 1924 Sarah underwent a serious operation and after that her health was indifferent. She would often sit on the back verandah in her rocking chair saying, "Get bet, Get bet," meaning "Get better". She was also very deaf.
In 1930 Sarah celebrated her 70th birthday with a big family gathering held for her. In 1932 George and Sarah celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 1932 Sarah died in the Balaklava Hospital. After her death George lived with his children and with his sister, Eliza. Finally he moved into Aldersgate where he stayed until his death.
Sarah's story is one of remarkable strength and courage; she nearly died as a baby, but lived to raise 10 children. (The Tucker Family in Australia 1992)
