- Charles Purnell Summers Enlisted on 31st January 1916 at Liverpool New South Wales Australia into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He was aged 24 yrs and 11 months at the time of enlistment. He recorded his trade as an Overseer, he was single and listed his next of kin as Mr Charles Stephen Summers. His physical description from his military service record is as follows: Age 24 yrs 11 months, height 5ft 10.5 inches, weight 162lbs, chest measurements 33.5/39.5 inches, complection Fair, Eyes Blue, Hair Brown, Religion Church of England. Distinctive Marks 3 vaccination Scars left arm, scars on inner side left leg.
He was posted to the 20th Reinforcements 7th Regt Australian Light Horse on 22/7/1916 and remained with them in Egypt until 5/2/1919. He was discharged from the Army on 20th March 1919. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
