DEATH OF MRS E.H. REDPATH OF HOYLETON
The sudden death of Mrs E.H. Redpath when she collapsed from a heart attack whilst boarding the train home on Thursday, October 21st 1954 at the Adelaide railway station came as a shock to her many friends and relatives. Mrs Redpath, who was born at Woodlands, her late home, 68 years ago, married Mr Redpath and later resided on the property of her late father Mr John Tucker, Mrs Redpath who was an ardent worker for many charities was for many years the president of the Hoyleton Red Cross, and a life member. Amongst those that received many benefits from her efforts were Minda Home, Brighton Kate Cocks Babies" Home, Brighton, and many other institutions. Her liberal assistance to those in less fortunate circumstances was done in a very quiet way and many in need of assistance will certainly miss the many generous gestures. She was a great traveller having made trips to all the capital cities in Australia, including Port Darwin, two trips to England, including visits to Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and a trip to America. She was an ardent Church worker, and a member of the Woodlands Methodist Church and a member of the Kybunga Methodist ladies' Guild and Hoyleton Ladies' Guild. She helped the Balaklava Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Axillary in raising money for that institution. Her eldest daughter Mrs F W Bakes is the president of this axillary. Mrs Redpath was laid to rest in the Balaklava cemetery when an extremely large crowd gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. The floral tributes, of which there was a large number, showed the respect in which sh was held in the district. The Rev. Hanson of Balaklava conducted the service at the grave side, and pall bearers were Messrs, W.O. Evans, R. Newton, W.J. Chapman, A. Graham, L.W. Tucker and F,J.W. Clarke, Members of the family are : Mrs F.W. Bakes, Watchman, Mrs T. Day, Balaklava, Mrs K Overton, Auburn, Mrs H. Cullen, Lae, New Guinea, Mr John Redpath, A Hoyleton. The Funeral arrangements were conducted by Mr A Ahrns of Balaklava (The Tucker Family in Australia, 1992)
