Notes |
- Clara Ellen Potts, was one of those rare people, who would rather give then receive. She was a very loving and caring person, worked hard and always had a smile and a good word for everyone. Some of her children lived at the house after they were married.
Mildred Potts (n. Weston) often said that Clara treated her as one of her own and always made her feel very welcome and part of the family. She was like this to all her sons and daughter in laws. The house often had lots of visitors, relatives and friends. She was a good cook and often had 30 people for christmas. William and Clara had 13 children of which 3 girls died at birth. My grandmother, Hilda May was their eldest child.
Clara Potts died on 23rd August 1950, aged 79, at Wellington New South Wales and is buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetary, Wellington. " her Obituary" appeared in the Wellington Times, a copy is attached.

William Herbert Potts and Clara Ellen Potts lived at "Havilah" Station after they married, they then had a dairy farm at "Pipeclay" near Mudgee. they left there and went into a general store at Cudgegone (a small town near Mudgee which is now submerged in the Windemeer Dam). They left Cudgegong and managed a property at Nevertire (west of Dubbo) around 1901 and another at Ponto (near Arthurville, Wellington). William then went share farming at Apsley, just outside Wellington and later moved to Curra Creek about 2 Kilometers over the Bell River from Wellington (on the left hand side of the road, just past the Roman Catholic Cemetery). In 1915,he purchased a house and about 10 hectares of land at the top end of Pierce St, Wellington. The inheritance received by Clara Ellen Potts from her father was used to buy this property. The property was called "Hillview". In 1925 they purchased more property, 2 kilometres from "Hillview" where they ran sheep and cattle. This property was later sold.
In 1938 the original house was pulled down. There was enough left over to build another house in Wellington.
