The population of Normanby is engaged chiefly in agricultural and pastoral pursuits; the central, W., and S.W. portion of the county is unsettled and unavailable except for sheep runs, and much of it consists of poor land covered with stringy-bark forest, heath, and extensive swamps, the principal of which are ? the South, Condon, Euglam, and Long swamps. Mt. Eccles (590 feet), mount Napier (1,440 feet), and Richmond hill, (727 feet), are the principal elevations, and all points of volcanic eruption.
