Lt Russell Stanley Brown

Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Russell Stanley Brown, 34th Battalion, of East Maitland, NSW. Prior to enlistment on 20 March 1916, 2nd Lt Brown worked as a shipping clerk. He embarked on 4 September 1916 from Sydney, NSW, as a Private with the service number 1790, a member of the 2nd Reinforcements, on board HMAT Port Sydney (A15). He was promoted to 2nd Lt in November 1917 and to Lieutenant on 16 March 1918. He was reported missing on 8 May 1918, along with three other officers and thiry-two men. He is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France, as he has no known grave.
